October (aka #NaNoPrepMo) has arrived! Stores are selling their pumpkin spice and clearance Christmas items, while we writers have #NaNoWriMo on the horizon. Which means we should dust off the keyboards and practice our finger yoga for the upcoming challenge. That’s right: 50,000 words, 1 month, gallons of coffee. If you have not signed up already, go to nanowrimo.org immediately! This is your first step in an incredible journey if you have not partaken yet; if you have, welcome back!
Last year, I compiled a list of 15 tips in order to break the 50k mark in November (click this sentence for the link). But I posted it only days before NaNo started… sorry. Not only did it help me reach 75k in 2014, I broke 86k last year! My goal is still 100k and I’m hoping to get closer to it in November.
In my tips (linked above) I say that a great community is the best way to get those words flowing. I hope you add me as a buddy and we write together! I’ll be posting more on Twitter (@matthewenordin) for word wars and different write-ins. I hope to see some of you in person or online as we do live write-ins! Check our weekly broadcast every Tuesday for more info (twitch.tv/shad0fx).
So, how is your prep for NaNoWriMo going this year? If you’re too busy or editing some other work, let me know as well. I’d love to cheer you on as you dig through an old manuscript or create a new one. Good writing to you all!
